Why I Don’t Swear Here, There or AnywhereFeb 01, 2019
Swearing seems to be everywhere today.
Everyone is using vulgar language on social media, on podcasts, and even on stages in front of thousands of people.
Well, not everyone.
I have chosen not to swear anywhere.
It's not for religious reasons but rather because I respect you.
The last thing I want to do is offend you with my words.
Let me elaborate…
First, a little background about me.
I was born in 1965 and grew up in the 1970s and early 1980s. On the first day of summer in 2020, I’ll be 55! Senior discounts? Oy! How did that happen?
In 1983, I graduated from high school and then from college in 2001.
Over the course of my time on this planet, I’ve been an on-air radio DJ (now they call them air personalities), volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT), and an inventory control coordinator.
And now I’m an entrepreneur.
I’ve watched as our society has not only accepted swearing but also embraced and glorified it.
Frankly, I don’t get it.
What's the purpose of swearing anyway?
F-bombs, GD this, son of a B, JC…the list goes on.
In my world, using the name of any deity outside of its proper use is swearing.
People have told me things like: "they’re just words" or "you’re being too sensitive".
You may have heard of Gary Vaynerchuck. He swears a lot but says he doesn’t mean to offend. It’s just who he is.
It’s as if we each have our own moral compass these days. No one seems to acknowledge any source of truth outside of themselves. We don’t seem to care if we offend each other.
You will never witness me swearing on The Mark Struczewski Podcast or any podcast where I am a guest, when I am speaking to an audience, on social media, or, well, anywhere.
Everything I do has always been, is, and will always be safe for everyone to listen to, watch or read. People have thanked me for this.
Did you know that podcasts that have any swearing on any episode cannot be downloaded in a Muslim country?
Why would I want to block anyone from listening to my message? Why would I want to lose an opportunity to talk to an audience just because I like to swear?
I’m here to help you be more productive and I can do that without offending anyone. And that’s why I don’t swear here, there or anywhere.
Do you swear?
If yes, how often? How long have you sworn?
Or...if you don't, why not?
