Why I Have Gone From 1 YouTube Channel to 3 (And How You Can Help Me)

Why I Have Gone From 1 YouTube Channel to 3

I have a confession to make.

For longer than I care to admit, I neglected YouTube.

Why is this such a big deal?

Because YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world, owned by the largest search engine (Google).

To say that I regret neglecting YouTube for so long is an understatement!

Well, I've begun to correct that.

And in this post, I'm going to share what I'm doing so you can hold me accountable. Social accountability is so powerful!

Then this happened.

On April 14, 2022, I had a guest, Vicki O'Neill, on The Mark Struczewski Podcast that talked about how entrepreneurs can increase sales using video. During the show, Vicki encouraged me to get back on to YouTube.

At the time, I had a channel that was just...there.

So, I began creating content for it again.

The content was a mix of YouTube Shorts (which I posted daily) and longer content (four to 12 minutes) that I repurposed into content for The Mark Struczewski Podcast.

The Mark Struczewski Podcast on YouTube?

A few weeks ago, I read somewhere that YouTube is the number two or number three place people consume podcasts.

I've always resisted putting The Mark Struczewski Podcast on YouTube because I couldn't believe that people would watch two talking heads.

Boy, was I wrong.

People don't watch the talking heads (for the most part), but they'll minimize the interview as they do other things on the Internet.

I decided to put my show on YouTube.

But then...

I confused the AI of YouTube!

The more I study YouTube (which is much more complicated than you realize!), the more I understand how powerful (and good!) the YouTube AI is and that there is more than one! In fact, there are several. The mission of the YouTube AI is to serve up to you, the viewer, the content you want.

"I need help!"

As I was reading The YouTube Formula (Derral Eaves, affiliate link), I went to his website and discovered that he and his team do one-hour consultations. Derral is YouTube certified and has been working with YouTube influencers through his agency since 1999. So, I booked a call with his team.

It was money well spent!

We connected on Zoom, and he took control of my computer and navigated all over my channel - mainly looking at my analytics.

That's when I learned that I was confusing the YouTube AI.

He said I have three main categories:

  • YouTube Shorts (less than 59 seconds)
  • The Mark Struczewski Podcast interviews
  • Content that is longer than 59 seconds but is not podcast interviews

And that's when he suggested I create a separate channel for each.

He explained that people watching my YouTube Shorts want to watch this type of content. But the YouTube AI, trying to be helpful, might serve up a 45-minute interview after the viewer watches a 45-second YouTube Short. And they bounce, which is bad for my channel.

So just this past week, I created two new YouTube channels.

I'm no MrBeast (yet!)

MrBeast is one of the largest YouTube channels, with nearly 98 MILLION subscribers, and he also has four subchannels.

I'm actively working on growing my YouTube channels. And there are two main ways you can help me:

  1. Subscribe to all three channels (Mark Struczewski for YouTube Shorts, The Mark Struczewski Podcast channel, and Mister Productivity) and turn on notifications for each channel.
  2. Watch videos as they are released (or are already available). YouTube is huge on videos actually being watched.

I will keep you updated on how my YouTube channels growth goes!
